I must say that if you use a Macbook (or any laptop in general) full-time, this product is a must. Macbooks are known for not having enough ports. The retinas give you an additional HDMI port but the standard models only have one thunderbolt port which is just insufficient. This dock allows you to continue to use your thunderbolt for one monitor (or whatever else you use it for) and add two additional monitors via USB 3.0.
The cable that came with the hub is much too short. I found that it was always under tension because of how short it is. I ended up buying a 6-foot cable which I’ve reviewed at http://beshoy.girgis.us/2015/08/review-cable-matters-2-pack-superspeed-usb-3-0-type-a-to-b-cable-in-black-6-feet/ which is much better than the cable that came with this dock.
The station itself is amazing. It features exactly what I needed to expand to. I do have one complaint. While this device is amazing as far as hardware goes, it falls short when it comes to software. This docking station uses a Displaylink driver which can be found at http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/. While the driver does get an update every three to six months, I’ve found Displaylink to be several months behind OS releases with regard to OSX. I’ve run into issues with Chrome windows on a monitor rendered by the docking station in recent weeks and am currently awaiting updates to resolve this.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with the docking station. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who works full-time on a laptop and needs the additional desktop space and/or someone who needs more usb ports, etc.
